THE ROOM

Darkness engulfed the room. She continued to stand silently by the open window. It was a balmy warm summer day. She stood there for long minutes. Sadly, with a smile on her lips, she watched those dark distances. Then she slowly turned and walked across the dark room to the door. Her pale hand rested on the light switch. She turned on the light and all the shadows jumped from the window.

WORDS

She came and had as many words for me as she had ever had before. She was speaking, though her lips never moved once. And those words filled the room. There were so many of them that there was nowhere to put them, and so they simply overflowed through the windowsill. They thronged out.

DARK

She was like an o’clock at the night. She made and lay down in the soft bed. She pulled the duvet over her head and was already trying to be gone.

THOUGHTS

How could she expect me to get my own thoughts in order. After all, they were like a flock of butterflies. They flapped their wings and kept darting across the dreamy meadows inside my otherwise ordinary head.

FRAGRANCE

She smelled like the world itself, like distances that I had not yet known. Like a dream that I lost in the morning.
